Winter Warmers Concerts - 2007

Two years ago, the Great North Woods Center for the Arts launched the Winter Warmers concert series with the generous contribution of Verlaine Daëron and Marc Ounis, owners of the Le Rendez-Vous Bakery in Colebrook. The proprietors of the popular downtown bakery freely offer the intimate setting of the bakery, as well as donate desserts to patrons and performers in a desire to further the arts in the North Country. Proceeds go to the GNWCA.

This February, we launch our third season of the Winter Warmers concert, which brings classical, Broadway, Celtic, jazz and other forms of music to a very receptive North Country audience. It also helps spotlight the talents of local and regional performers. Most of the concerts have played to a full house at the bakery, so concert-goers are asked to buy their tickets early. This year organizers are pleased to announce that a "ticket central" for the series has been set up through Lazerworks Radio Shack in Colebrook, where people can buy tickets for specific concerts in advance. The individual ticket price of $12 will include choice of dessert and beverage. The dessert service will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the concerts each starting at 7 p.m.

Just Jazz - February 9, 2007

Our opener with vocalist Jordan Phinney, pianist Sarah Counter, and guitarist Eric Brinkerhoff.

Way off Broadway - March 2, 2007

Performers include Dick Beauregard, Mindy Marquis, Melanie Reese and accompanists Bud Hikel and Stephaie Lyons on Piano and Mario Marquis on guitar. On the program are numbers from "Oklahoma," "Phantom Of The Opera," "Grease" and "Mamma Mia," based on the songs of Abba, among many others.

It's not necessary to travel all the way to New York City to enjoy the music of the "Great White Way." Broadway comes to Colebrook on Friday, March 23, with the Winter Warmers concert, "Way Off Broadway." The program includes selections from such stage hits as "Oklahoma," "South Pacific," "Les Miserables," "Fiddler On The Roof," "Oliver" and more. Mindy and Mario, a father and daughter team, will perform a medley of songs from the recent Broadway hit "Mamma Mia," based on the music of the pop group Abba.

The concert was originally planned for later in the series, but has been switched with the piano concert due to the availability of performers. All tickets sold for the "Way Off Broadway" concert to date will be honored at the door on March 2.

Celtic Consort - February 16, 2007

Returning after last year's sellout appearance is "Celtic Consort," a group of musicians from northern New Hampshire and the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont who perform Celtic music. Fiddles, flutes, bodhran, guitars, penny whistle and keyboard are all part of the mix. Selections will include lively numbers such as "Fiddle Set" and "Hooper's Jig" to the beautiful "Amelia's Waltz" and "Arran Boat Song." A recitation of a Scottish tale or two will also be featured.

Fondly Folk - March 16, 2007

The Folk Tree will perform renderings of folk songs made famous by the likes of Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Peter, Paul & Mary, and other artists of the 1950's and '60's.

Mostly Mozart - March 30, 2007

The performance by Sharon Pearson, pianist, Mark Hanlon, clarinet, and Sarah Dole, soprano, will include selections from two of the most famous piano sonatas, and the Concerto for Clarinet (one of Mozart’s last compositions). Ms. Dole will sing the beloved “Ave Verum Corpus,” and arias from two operas. Perhaps the most remarkable prodigy of all time, light “Mozart Moments” will be offered throughout the program, sharing insights into the profound and tragic life of the composer.

This is the fifth of the six-concert series produced annually by the Great North Woods Center for the Arts, and held at Le Rendez-Vous French Bakery and Café on Main Street, Colebrook. The GNWCA created the “Winter Warmers” series in 2004, as a unique way to combine the talents of local musicians and a special, supportive venue with a growing audience demand for quality performances. The now-annual series has been the primary fundraiser for the developing GNWCA organization.
