“Steel Magnolias” is directed by Steve Bunnell and Becky Hassett as stage manager, and showcases the mother and daughter combo Lori Cotnoir (M’Lynn) and Naomi Going (Shelby). The cast also includes Rebecca Larson (Ousier), Donna Jordan (Clairee), Tanya Young (Truvy) and Colleen Clogston (Annelle).
Robert Harling was inspired to write the play—his first--after his sister Susan died of complications from diabetes. “Steel Magnolias” premiered off-Broadway at the WPA Theater in 1987, then quickly transferred to the Lucille Lortel Theater and became an instant sensation, running for three years and spawning a hit movie starring Julie Roberts, Dolly Parton, Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine and Daryl Hannah.
This is the third play for the newly formed Carriage Lane Players; their first was “Barefoot in the Park,” produced last fall, followed by the popular “Boeing-Boeing.” This is also the third play that veteran performer Naomi Going has performed in for the Carriage Lane Players, and the second play for Colleen Clogston, Lori Cotnoir and Rebecca Larson. It is the first play for Tanya Young and Donna Jordan.
Tickets for the play will be available at the door, or in advance at Fiddleheads on Main Street in Colebrook. It is recommended that tickets are purchased early.
The Great North Woods Committee for the Arts is assisting as a sponsor once again.
