The Great North Woods Committee for the Arts will present the Emie R Roussel Jazz Trio in concert at the Tillotson Center in Colebrook. Mark your calendars for this award-winning group’s performance on Wednesday, June 17, at 7 p.m.
“This stunning trio opens the doors to something completely new for the Great North Woods Committee for the Arts concerts,” said GNWCA President Charlie Jordan. “We are very fortunate to have Emie and her group make their first appearance in this area at the Tillotson Center. They will be bringing with them a level of world-class jazz that will be a first for our concerts.” The concert is sponsored by Laurence Rappaport and will feature the newly restored 1928 Steinway piano on the Tillotson Center stage.
Rewarded with a special mention by the jury of the TD Grand Jazz Award at the 34th Montreal International Jazz Festival and winners of the People’s Choice Award at the 2013 Festi Jazz International de Rimouski, the Emie R Roussel Trio features Emie Rioux-Roussel on piano, Nicolas Bédard on bass and Dominic Cloutier on drums. The group is rapidly building a commanding presence on the Canada jazz scene. This creative and dynamic trio skillfully blends influences from both European and North American jazz.

Pianist Emie Rioux-Roussel was named Révélation Radio-Canada Jazz 2014-15, and her compositions are performed with passion and sensitivity by these three talented musicians whose chemistry and authenticity never fail to charm audiences. After launching a first album titled Temps Inégal in 2010, “TRANSIT,” trio’s second release won the Jazz Album of the Year award at Prix Opus 2013-14. In addition to presenting concerts in Quebec and Western Canada in 2014, the trio also had the opportunity to perform several shows in Australia and New Zealand. During this tour, the band played at the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival and in the cities of Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland and Wellington.
In 2015, the trio launches a third album, “Quantum,” which already has significant visibility and won excellent reviews both in Canada and over the Atlantic. The trio recently completed a European tour in Italy, Estonia and France.
