The first show is set for Wednesday, April 5, and features The Bookends. These two talented musicians from England will be starting their first U.S. tour here in Colebrook when they celebrate the music of beloved American folk-rock performers Simon and Garfunkel. The duo is authorized by Simon and Garfunkel to perform their songbook of tunes we all remember from the 1960s and ’70s and their sound is uncanny. From “Scarborough Fair” to “Mrs. Robinson,” all the tunes are here faithfully recreated.
Then on Friday, May 6, Mike Goudreau–an acclaimed blues and jazz performer from Quebec, teams up with Rick Erwin and Bob Purington (who performed at the Balsams for years) for a memorable night of music. “Expect something along the line of B.B. King meets Michael Buble,” said GNWCA President Charlie Jordan. “Mike is a consummate musician who will be digging into the great American songbook of standards, recalling songs made popular by Sinatra and Nat King Cole, as well as showcasing some cutting-edge guitar work right out the school of Eric Clapton. And we’re delighted to bring back to the GNWCA roster Rick Erwin and Bob Purington, who have been impressing local fans for years.”
Popular demand has prompted the rebooking of Rock On. Their GNWCA show at the Country Club last January was one of the hits of the season, bringing a crowd to the dance floor by bringing with them the music we all grew up rockin’ to in the ’60, ’70s and ’80s. Bring your boogie shoes and Jules and the gang will rev it up! Rock On appears on Saturday, June 10.
“And to our many fans of Celtic music, which continues to be one of our biggest draws, we are pleased to bring to Colebrook for the first time the talented MacDonald sisters from Halifax, Nova Scotia,” Jordan said. “Maggie and Cassie have been winning fans wherever they go with their endearing music. They have been named 2016 Live Ireland Radio’s Singers of the Year and New Group of the Year, winners of Chicago Irish-American newspaper’s Female Vocal Album of the Year, Galaxie Radio Rising Stars, winners of multiple Canadian folk music awards, East Coast Music Awards and more. Cassie and Maggie are lighting up the world with their unique blend of traditional and contemporary Celtic Roots music. Exciting and innovative, they have found a perfect balance between musical integrity, and sheer entertainment. Cassie and Maggie appear in Colebrook on Friday, June 23.
The GNWCA at the Country Club Concert Series shows all get underway at 7 p.m. on show nights. Tickets for all these shows will be available at Fiddleheads, 110 Main St., Colebrook, or at the door. Tickets are $15.
