Keeping with its tradition of bringing top performers to the North Country during the finale of Moose Festival Weekend, the Great North Woods Committee for the Arts announces that it will present the dynamic father and son duo of Ken and Brad Kolodner of Maryland and their touring companion, top old-timey fiddler Rachel Eddy to cap the three-day celebration.
“We invite the visitors and our local audience who will be marking the 25th anniversary of the North Country Moose Festival to join us at the Tillotson Center at 7 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 28, for this wonderful night of Americana and old-time music from the best in their genre now touring North America,” said GNWCA President Charlie Jordan.
Ken and Brad Kolodner weave a captivating soundscape on hammered dulcimer, dueling banjos and triple fiddles, gourd banjo, the exotic hammered mbira, banjola, guitar and vocals pushing the boundaries of the old-time tradition into uncharted territory. Regarded as one of the most influential hammered dulcimer players in North America, Baltimore’s Ken Kolodner (formerly of Helicon) has joined forces with his son Brad Kolodner (Charm City Junction), a rising star in the clawhammer banjo world. Together, they infuse their own brand of driving, innovative, tasteful and unique interpretations of traditional and original fiddle tunes and songs. Rounding out the trio is multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Rachel Eddy (The Early Mays) one of the world’s premier old-time musicians and a former member of Uncle Earl. Combined, they perform tight and musical arrangements of original and traditional old-time music with a creative curiosity that lets all listeners know that a passion for traditional music yet thrives today.
“We first had a chance to see the Kolodners at a music festival in Vermont last year and knew right away that we wanted to book them for Colebrook,” Jordan said. “We were delighted when they announced that Rachel Eddy would be joining them on this tour.”
