Scottish singer and harpist Maeve Gilchrist and Keith Murphy, guitarist and songster from Newfoundland, will present a new musical collaboration centered around traditional and trad-inspired songs.
Maeve and Keith bring to their concert a fresh harmony sound that is somehow both earthy and buoyant at the same time. Their arrangements are founded on a rich bed of great instrumental range.
Maeve was a 2017 nominee for Scottish Instrumentalist of the Year and teaches at the Berklee College of Music. She is renowned for having stretched the bounds of the Celtic harp and has performed in a dazzling range of combinations, including with Darol Anger, Viktor Krasuss and as concerto soloist with orchestra in a piece of her own composition.
Keith is widely known and respected for his tasteful interpretations of traditional song. His guitar, mandolin and Quebecois style foot percussion have helped define the sound of many influential musical projects, including Nightingale, Childs play and the Hanneke Cassel Trio. He has also written dozens of fiddle tunes, many of which have become staples of the dance musician repertoire around the country.
In their very short period of time performing together, Maeve and Keith have discovered a unique symbiosis in their combined music making. It’s an infectious energy that audiences have found captivating.
