This past week the brand-new stage flooring was being installed at the Tillotson Center in Colebrook, N.H., and later this month it will get a complete workout as one of New England’s top ensembles comes to perform a captivating evening of dance and music.
On Saturday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m., the Great North Woods Committee for the Arts brings to Colebrook the Laura Scott Dance Group from Maine. Headed up by Laura Scott, which the Washington Post calls a “Spectacularly nimble and graceful performer” and who has been recognized by the Boston Globe as “a showstopper…enchanting, graceful and high-twirling,” it will be a memorable evening unlike anything which has graced the local stage to date.

Laura’s specialty has been the Scottish Highland dance. Over the years she has incorporated Cape Breton stepdance, Highland Hardshoe and other improvisations into elaborate choreographies.
Today she tours with her multi-talented family and star students, headed up by her husband, Ed Pearlman, a gifted fiddler. Their son Neil Pearlman is one of the top in-demand pianists in the Boston Celtic and Celt-Folk circuit who teams up with his sister, fiddler Lilly Pearlman, in their own quartet called Alba’s Edge–which rocked the New World Festival in Vermont last Labor Day weekend. Alba’s Edge finds common ground between Celtic, jazz, Latin and funk styles, all of which may come into play when the family unleashes its talent before a live audience.
“I had a chance to see Laura, Ed and their marvelous family at the grand finale of the Crossroads International Celtic Festival in Maine last year,” said Charlie Jordan, president of the GNWCA, “and was struck by the beauty and charm of their artistry. We were very fortunate that they’ve agreed to come to Colebrook and in turn help us inaugurate the new stage flooring at the Tillotson Center.”
Tickets for the Laura Scott Dance Group show are $15 and now on sale at Fiddleheads, 110 Main St., in Colebrook, as well as at the door on the night of the show. The Tillotson Center is on Carriage Lane in Colebrook, near the Colebrook Post Office just off Route 26 (Parsons Street).
Other upcoming performances booked by the GNWCA at the Tillotson Center include a live presentation of the classic play “Our Town” by the Col. Town Players on Friday, April 11; the return of Camerata New England with a program of Schubert on Saturday, May 10; the very popular group from last year Ashelin featuring the Palmer sisters on Monday, June 9; the Gothard Sisters on Monday, July 7; and the Celtic Funk group Coig on Tuesday, July 15.
