Just in time for the Christmas season is a new CD recording by a group of performers known collectively as The Fireside Fiddlers. The Fireside Fiddlers Christmas Album, like the group’s first CD released two years ago, is produced as a fund-raiser for the Tillotson Center in Colebrook. On a recent Saturday the seven area fiddlers and their accompanists got together in the Tillotson Center and spent the day recording Christmas favorites, laying down tracks that include such favorites as “Joy To The World,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Jingle Bells,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” and a host of other yuletide classics.
The new CD will be debuted at a CD release “coffeehouse” held in the first floor gallery at the Tillotson Center on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 7:00 PM. It will have a special “launch release” price of $10. All proceeds from sales will go to the Tillotson Center.
The Fireside Fiddlers were formed by local fiddler Patrick Ross a couple of years ago for the purpose of producing a CD to benefit construction costs at the Tillotson Center. Ross invited all the regional fiddlers he knew to come to his living room in Groveton and record old-time fiddle tunes. What resulted was a recording filled with over 20 tunes ranging from “Red Wing” to “The Tennessee Waltz.” The Fireside Fiddlers holds the distinction of having been the very first musical group to perform on the stage at the Tillotson Center when it debuted its CD live in July 2011. Those CDs have enjoyed brisk sales since and copies are still available at Fiddleheads gift shop in Colebrook.

Patrick Ross has since moved from the area and the aggregation of fiddlers is now under the direction of Dick Rosser of Guildhall, Vt. The current line-up of fiddlers heard on the new Christmas CD are Dick Rosser, Gordon Gray, Terry Churchill, Charlie Jordan, Joyce Ball, Lyndall Demers and Paul Cormier. They are accompanied by JoAnn Gilman on bass, Dave Van Houten on cittern and Roland Cotnoir on guitar. Rosser is also heard on mandolin during some tracks. Donna Jordan and Nancy Gray provide sleigh bell accompaniment for a couple of tunes. All donated their time and talents freely to the project.

The event is co-sponsored by the Great North Woods Committee for the Arts and the Tillotson Center and also launches a new series at the center designed to recreate a coffeehouse. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to assisting both organizations as they continue to provide programming and a quality facility for the region.
