Colebrook will hold the distinction on Tuesday, Oct. 20, of being the first U.S. audience to hear selections from one of Toronto’s most exciting new group’s first full-length CD, “Finding Anyplace.” The Colebrook appearance will come one day after the new album makes its debut at a CD release party in Montreal.
The group is Ozere, which takes equal inspiration from chamber groups and folk bands. It’s what happens when you bring together musicians who play bluegrass, Celtic, jazz, Klezmer, Afro Cuban, classical and more. Formed in April 2012, Ozere has garnered a following of very loyal fans. The group’s debut full-length album released this month is produced by Juno Award-winning producer David Travers-Smith.
“It is truly a treat to be able to continue the tradition of high-quality of performers the GNWCA has become known for by bringing Ozere to the Tillotson Center,” said Great North Woods Committee for the Arts President Charlie Jordan. “Musically, expect the unexpected because Ozere defies classification–they are a world of music in one ensemble.”
Ozere’s lineup is made up of Jessica Deutsch on violin and lead and background vocals, Emily Rockarts on lead and background vocals, Adrian Gross on mandolin, acoustic guitar and electric guitar, Lydia Munchinsky on cello and background vocals, and Bret Higgins on upright bass.
Inside World Music has previewed Ozere’s new CD, “Finding Anyplace,” and noted, “The Canadian folk-roots-group, Ozere, tackles beautiful melodies, breezy rhythms, and rootsy vocals with engaging instrumentals mixed in for added pleasure on their latest release, ‘Finding Anyplace.’ The instrumental gem on the album, ‘Anyplace,’ weaves a tapestry of sonic sounds ranging from Celtic to Nordic and even the Middle East in a seamless fashion. The vocals are great on ‘Keeper’ and ‘Someday Soon.’ Ozere does not fit into a specific genre very well, but anyone with a passion for folk, roots, neo-classical, new age, and world fusion will find love at first note with this one.”
Ozere will be bringing its new CD, literally hot off the presses, with them when they appear at the Tillotson Center. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance at Fiddleheads, 110 Main St., in Colebrook, and at the door on the night of the concert.
